When I hide module positions in Layout (CLICK ON EYE), the module is gone but space is still reserved!

I have text in custom html module published to sidebar-1. In responsive layout when you click on eye icon to hide module position it still reserves that space with nothing in. For example, the main component does not slide over. I am local only, so no URL.
