How to keep content on one row like a span12

I put some elements in an article but whenI move the page in, it reflows to easily. If I have it as an image that takes the full width, it sizes down. Is there a way to have multiple elements size down like an image would?

for instance Image, Text block, Image, image image

The difference here is that it's within an article rather than in a module. I see that modules in spotlights seem to resize. I want to do that without having to create a bunch of spotlight sections just for a page of content.
